According to folklore, the gift of a tomato was given to newly wed couples to place on the mantle of their home to bring prosperity and to ward off evil spirits. When fresh tomatoes were not in season, stuffed tomatoes were given in their place. These stuffed versions were the perfect place to hold pins.This pincushion is stuffed with wool roving to keep your pins dry and free of rust. This cushion is created with fabric in a traditional design and in the traditional colour of red. The strawberry is filled with fine sand to sharpen your pins and keep them in tip top shape. The strawberry is made of silk fabric and is finished with hand embroidery.
